Clinical Operations Associate Medical Director Location: This position has been approved to work remote, anywhere in the US with preference given to candidates located in California.

Our platform delivers significant cost-of-care savings across an expanding set of clinical domains, including radiology, cardiology and oncology.We are currently seeking several versatile Board Certified Medical Oncologists to participate in pre-authorization reviews related to oncology care. Medical Directors in Clinical Operations determine the medical necessity of outpatient radiology, cancer chemotherapy and genetic testing requests using clinical guidelines and health plan medical policy.

How you will make impact:

  • Perform physician-level case review, following genetic analyst review, of genetic tests including Hereditary cardiac disease, Genetic testing for hereditary cancer susceptibility, Molecular testing of solid and hematologic tumors and malignancies, Pharmacogenetics testing and genetic testing for thrombotic disorders, Genetic testing for single-gene and multifactorial conditions, Whole exome and whole genome sequencing along with Genetic testing for reproductive carrier screening and prenatal diagnosis

  • Determine medical necessity of requests using AIM Medical Necessity Guidelines and client-specific health plan medical policy.

  • Conduct peer-to-peer discussions with ordering physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners to provide education regarding established guidelines and accepted standards of care as they pertain to the use of genetic testing.

  • Suggest alternative tests to ordering providers when appropriate.

  • Document the pre-certification review in a complete, concise, and accurate manner in the pre-certification computer application.

  • Demonstrate and maintain current knowledge of modalities and new applications of known technologies for genetic testing.

  • As necessary, assist pre-certification nurses and other staff in understanding the principles behind appropriate utilization of covered tests.

  • Participate in periodic physician team meetings.

  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of relevant policies and regulations pertaining to utilization review of genetic testing.

  • Acquire, demonstrate, and maintain proficiency with ICD-10 and CPT coding.

  • Participate on committees or in work groups as needed for revision of clinical guidelines and/or serve as a subject matter expert.

  • Perform first level provider appeals as designated by the client for adverse determinations.

  • Obtain additional state licensure based upon business needs.

  • Adhere to all AIM Specialty Health Management protocols, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Requires an MD and minimum of 1 year of experience with clinical case reviews for medical necessity.

  • The minimum of 1 year of experience with clinical case reviews would be waived for the following specific specialties only; Cardiology, Oncology, and Interventional Pain specialties.

  • Board certification in a medical specialty required. This job is paid on an hourly basis.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Board Certification American Board of Medical Specialties in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, or Medical Genetics

  • 3-5 years of clinical practice experience post-fellowship training is preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of current practice standards in interventional pain management.

  • Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Computer literacy with the ability to learn new applications.

  • Strong analytical skills.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
